GBA LABORATORY GROUP AT THE FRUIT LOGISTICA 2010
NEW FACILITIES FOR FURTHER GROWTH IN THE FOOD ANALYSIS SECTOR

Pleased with the success of its participation in last year’s fair, GBA Gesellschaft für Bioanalytik Hamburg GmbH returns to exhibit at the Fruit Logistica in 2010.

GBA is one of Germany’s leading laboratory groups, employing some 200 people in 8 different locations in the country. For 30 years the Company has been working in the fields of analytical chemistry and microbiology as they relate to foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, the environment and consumer goods.

GBA has achieved more rapid growth over the last 10 years by taking over other laboratories. In April 2009 the two separate facilities for food and pharmaceuticals analysis were brought together in one new location on Goldtschmidt Strasse in Hamburg-Harburg. The move in April 2009 went smoothly. The new laboratory building offers 3,300 m² of floor space.

Manfred Giesecke, managing director of GBA, is very satisfied with the new arrangements: “Centralization has many advantages. On the one hand we can now further enhance the range, quality and efficiency of our services and be even better at meeting our clients' need for rapid, customized services. And on the other hand the move reflects our expansion strategy to build more business for the food and pharmaceutical analysis sectors. We aim to acquire new authorizations, and also to open up new facilities in other parts of Germany. We are vigorously pursuing these plans.”

GBA offers a comprehensive range of analysis and consultancy services in the fruit and vegetables sector. This is best illustrated by its high throughput laboratory which opened on-site at Hamburg Wholesale Market in 2007 and is specialized in the detection of pesticides. The analysis results can be made available within one day, in other words before the produce goes on sale. This serves to significantly increase consumer safety.

GBA counts well-known growers, processors and traders among its clients – and thus covers all stages of the value chain. In addition to analysing foodstuffs, the Company also offers many other analysis services - in the environmental sector (e.g. testing soil and water) and in the consumer goods sector (e.g. packaging tests).

At the Fruit Logistica visitors and exhibitors can talk to the GBA team and find out more about the range of services the Company can provide; meet them at the joint stand shared by Germany’s wholesale markets in hall 21, stand F-09.
