This laboratory was a spin-off of the environmental department of a medical laboratory that had been established by Dr.med. Dr. rer.nat. Erich Döllefeld, doctor of medicine and chemist

To start with work was concentrated on the investigation of drinking water, food and consumer goods.

In 1989 the laboratory added new sectors to analyse soil, refuse and air; it was registered as a GmbH, or limited company under German law. Since then the company name has been GBA Gesellschaft für Bioanalytik Hamburg mbH.

The name, with its inclusion of “bioanalysis”, is intended to signal that our company subjects food and environmental samples to both microbiological and chemical tests. In 1995 the range of testing was widened to include pharmaceuticals analysis.

Over the course of the following years more laboratories with their highly qualified staff were acquired, so that GBA Group now has a workforce of 310 people in 9 different locations. GBA is thus in a position to offer domestic and overseas customers a comprehensive analysis service in all relevant areas.

Apart from receiving top quality laboratory analyses, our customers can expect the personal advice and attention of experienced GBA staff. We regard a thorough interpretation of the test results – even before the analysis process is finished – as an important part of our customer service.

People

		Manfred Giesecke, Managing Director since 1994 and the other partner in GBA since 1995, is a qualified biologist and commercial manager specialising in banking. His many years' experience in the lab sector have given him a rich store of chemical and analytical knowledge as well as broad experience in running and organising labs.
		One of the partners is still company founder Dr. Dr. Erich Döllefeld. His huge store of experience makes him invaluable as an advisor to our company. He also continues to be a driving force responsible for extending our business activities to new, innovative fields.
